Patte Kayne

Patte Kayne Florida

Drawing with the lowly crayon is one of Patte’s first memories, but she soon moved on to the more sophisticated tools of paint, pen & ink, and pencils.  She also absorbed sewing, quilting & other needle arts from both grandmothers, her mom, and others.  Art & drafting classes from high school through college opened up a Pandora’s box of opportunity.  Those college drafting classes led to her first professional art job as a technical illustrator.  The skills learned in layout & production art are still used today.

In 1987, Patte discovered decorative painting and the wonderful possibilities of acrylics. Her first teacher introduced her to the Society of Decorative Painters.  In 2000, she went to her first SDP convention. After walking through the SDP certification booth, certification became one of her goals and she achieved her CDA in 2006.  Patte has taught numerous local workshops and at Artist Expo Houston. She has articles published in Paintworks as well as the Decorative Painter.  In 2014, she branched out into video classes and participated in the first Art Play Date online series.

Working in acrylics is just a starting point for Patte.  Part of her creative process is translating her designs into other mediums.  She is currently working in mixed media, silk/textiles, watercolor batik and fused glass.

Patte lives in Oviedo, Florida, with hubby and her boxer boy.  The kids  aren’t too far away and grandson #1 will be walking soon!
